Sharing common values - that is the foundation on which the “International Circle of Honour 2100” is based. Its Members pledge to operate after the fundamentals of fair responsible behaviour and principles of respectable businesspersons:
To operate fair implies that the Members of the “International Circle of Honour 2100” reject greed, exploitation and unjust enrichment at the expense of others.
The concept of the respectable businessperson (“ehrbarer Kaufmann”) originated more than 600 years ago in Italy. It is based on the conviction that a businessperson should manifest specific character qualities and should show virtuous behaviour. The values were originally tolerance, peacefulness, courteousness, wisdom, orderliness and cultural sponsoring. These were to maintain social peace in the Italian trading towns.
The principles of the respectable businessperson extend beyond the business life to the personal values. The respectable businessperson stands among others for truthfulness, fairness, decency, honesty, loyalty and temperance.
At the beginning of the 20th century, businesspersons from Hamburg endeavoured to convert these values into modernity. In the year 1908, they established the “Assembly of Respectable Businessmen from Hamburg” (“Versammlung Eines Ehrbaren Kaufmanns zu Hamburg”).
The Members of the “International Circle of Honour 2100” also want to be role models in business life. Therefore, these values are not relicts of past times, but are guidelines for actions in the here and now. Clients and partners of the Members of the “International Circle of Honour 2100” may rely on this.
